Trails forest by forest

The national forests' land trails as the Forest Service maps them - 45,708 trails over 125,039 miles - with each forest's own class, grade and allowed uses where it publishes them.

Trails on BLM land, state by state

The Bureau of Land Management's trails managed for the public - 4,581 named trails over 9,243 miles - with the Bureau's own surface, use class, trail system and OHV limits. The layer names no field office, so the state is the unit; the monuments and conservation areas are listed below.

Trails in the national wildlife refuges

The Fish and Wildlife Service's refuge trails - 2,685 named trails over 3,253 miles on 408 refuges - with the Service's own surface, condition, uses, and whether dogs are allowed.

Trails in the national monuments, conservation and recreation areas

The BLM's and the Forest Service's monuments, conservation areas, recreation areas and scenic areas on the parks map, each listing the trails inside its boundary - the same trails as the forests', gathered by the unit.

Read from the Services 2026-10-17. Units that publish no public trail lines are not listed. Closures change: check the park's or forest's own site before you go.
